A Girafe at the sea

In its « zood » natal, Girafe giraffe bores. Stuck by the stories of her mother born in Africa, she dreams of this elsewhere and freedom. One night she managed to escape to fulfill her vows: see the sea. This musical and playful tale is punctuated with songs performed by the giraffe.

This musical tale, created in March 2012, playsfully addresses the subject of differences – physical and cultural – through the central character of the Girafe, an atypical animal. The author left a real visit he made to the Fréjus Zoo in 2004 where he found the depressing in which the animals were immersed, especially the giraffes. The vision of a yellow buoy resembling a giraffe in the sea, a few days later in Cannes, gave him the idea of writing « A Girafe at the sea » where he tells about the trip of Girafe the giraffe to escape from the Fréjus zoo and then his turbulent encounter with the men but also other different animals of her (Madagascar had not yet come out !!). This show is an adaptation of the first 2 stories of giraffe « A Girafe at the sea » and » Mechanical Giraffes », to which the author added 9 original songs + a traditional African. The music was composed by the cellist. This acoustic show is played entirely live and without any soundtrack. Aurélie Verrier plays the cello, the Kora, the Balafon and participates in the acting game. Frédérique Mathieu Giraffe is the giraffe.Singing and actress, she also choreographed the blues of the Giraffe. It intervenes in accordion on several pieces. Magalie Ducleux is the narrator of this show, she tells and plays several characters. She also performed in close collaboration with the author. The decoration and lighting are of François-Henry Rainson.
